South African artist William Kentridges career spans film, drawing and theatre, frequently blending elements of each into integrated works of art. He is perhaps best known for his non-traditional animation technique using charcoal drawings on a single piece of paper to create works of extraordinary depth, often with political and social themes. His art has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, MOMA the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and many museums and galleries world-wide. He is currently working on Shostakovichs The Nose, to premier at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 2010.
